Casey Sylvaria, Broker, Senior Account Administrator

Coming from a maritime background working on-board yachts, sailing school vessels and charter boats, Casey joined North Star Marine Insurance in 2014 as an Account Administrator. Casey is responsible for receiving and processing applications, documentation, and customer requests. She maintains an efficient and accurate process, ensuring a worry-free and professional experience for clients of the Fairhaven office. Casey is a licensed broker in the States of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Prior to joining North Star, Casey actively participated in meetings at the International Maritime Organization in London including the Maritime Safety Committee, Flag State Implementation, and the Marine Environmental Protection Committee on behalf of the Commonwealth of Dominica’s International Ship Registry. While working for the Dominica Maritime Registry, she held the position of Director of Inspections and Technical Compliance. Maintaining, implementing, and monitoring the Flag’s Port State performance worldwide for a fleet of up to 200 vessels, Casey orchestrated over 150 inspectors in over 30 countries to ensure the safety and compliance of the entire fleet. Casey revised and drafted Marine Safety Circulars and Policy Letters according to changes in marine regulations, drafted and implemented the regulations for compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention for Dominica flagged vessels, and assisted with vetting ships for entry into the Registry.

Casey is a certified Port State Control Inspector, in accordance with the requirements of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding held by Transport Canada and International Safety Management Audits held by Lloyd’s Register. Casey holds a merchant mariner credential.


Amanda Penney, Administrative Assistant/Receptionist

Amanda joined the Fairhaven office of NSIS in 2017 as an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist. Amanda brings to NSIS her highly personalized customer service and executive account management experience from a decade of professional involvement as a highly successful operations manager in the retail industry.

Amanda assists with all aspects of the production and claims departments. She maintains client insurance files, fields telephone inquiries, maintains the office database systems, and prepares presentation materials, as needed.
